THE WALLED GARDEN
The rejuvenation of the Walled Garden at Packington is a central focus of activity and reflects the core values of the Estate.
The rejuvenation of the walled garden at Packington has become a primary focus of activity and promotes the core pillars of the Estate.
THE GARDEN RESTORATION
Having fallen into disrepair between the World Wars, the Walled Garden has recently been the subject of careful and passionate restoration. What began as a field dotted with solar panels and chickens has been transformed into a vibrant, productive space featuring:
- An orchard
- A wildflower meadow
- Herbaceous borders
- Fruit and vegetable beds
- Beautiful cut flowers
The garden serves two key purposes. First, it grows food without artificial fertilisers or sprays. Careful planning and crop rotation help manage pests and diseases naturally. The result is fresh, healthy produce that supports good gut health and overall wellbeing.
A RELAXING SPACE
The second purpose of the garden is to offer a peaceful, restorative space, whether for a short walk, quiet reflection, or as a venue for workshops, educational visits, and small gatherings.
Recent improvements include:
- A new water feature
- A giant fruit cage
- A pergola and flower-rich herb meadows, all designed to stimulate the senses
While the garden remains private, access is offered through open days, volunteer opportunities, and in time a range of workshops and courses.
our produce
The Walled Garden supplies fresh fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, and eggs for the Estate’s staff and tenants. Using a no-dig approach, we avoid disturbing the soil, enriching it year on year with:
- Green manure
- Organic mulch
- Compost made on-site
